Avon Park Fire Department - Centennial Celebration
100 Years of Service

Avon Park Fire Department

Centiennial Celebration

In a momentous milestone, the Avon Park Fire Department is set to commemorate a century of dedicated service to the community. On December 8, from 4 to 6 pm, the Avon Park Fire Department will host a vibrant Centennial Celebration at their firehouse located at 98 S. Delaney Avenue. This free and open-to-the-public event promises an array of engaging activities for citizens of all ages.

The celebration will feature a nostalgic journey through the fire department's illustrious 100-year history, showcased in a captivating display. Attendees can anticipate a festive atmosphere with games and delectable goodies. Fire Chief Andy Marcy expresses enthusiasm for the milestone, stating, "We have professionally served our community for the past 100 years, and we look forward to continuing our growth as a department, dedicated to serving our community for the next 100 years."

Reflecting on the evolution of their responsibilities over the past century, Chief Marcy emphasizes the department's enduring commitment to public safety, fire prevention, education, and community outreach. The event serves as a platform for both celebration and reflection on the remarkable journey undertaken by the Avon Park Fire Department.

The firehouse, a pivotal element in the community since its construction in 1976, stands as a testament to the department's evolution. Equipped to handle various emergencies, the facility houses three types of fire trucks—brush, engine, and ladder—as well as a rescue boat for the city's numerous lakes. Inside, visitors will discover facilities dedicated to maintaining gear and a workout area for firefighters.

During the celebration, the firehouse doors will swing open to the public, providing a unique opportunity for citizens to explore the inner workings of the department. Firefighters will be on hand to offer demonstrations of the sophisticated fire equipment, answer questions about station operations and fire safety, and extend hospitality by serving snacks and drinks to visitors.

City Manager Mark Schrader encourages the community's participation in the centennial celebration. "We look forward to our citizens joining us for the centennial celebration activities while meeting our current and retired firefighters," says Schrader, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in acknowledging this significant milestone.

As the Avon Park Fire Department looks back on a century of service, the Centennial Celebration becomes a bridge connecting the past, present, and future—a testament to the enduring commitment of these dedicated firefighters to the safety and well-being of the community they proudly serve.
