The Dixie Walesbilt Hotel is a historic hotel in Lake Wales. It is also know as the Grand Hotel in downtown Lake Wales Florida.
The hotel was built in 1927 and was added to the US National Regiser of Historic places in 1990. With an ornate interior detailed with marbel italian ceilings and wrought iron, shopping acades, and a central atrium the hotel opened January 1927 two years before Bok tower was completed.
In 1995, it was closed after being sold at auction. The interior of the hotel was to be renovated and reconstructed but was never completed.
The 12 Hours of Sebring “Sebring Races” is held in March of each year at the Sebring Regional Airport (sebringairport.com). The airport is located east of the city.
The annual race draws race fans from all over the world to one of the oldest continuously-operating race tracks in the United States. This is a premier endurance racing event.

The Legend of SPOOK HILL…
Just outside Downtown Lake Wales placed upon a gravity hill Spook Hill gives an optical illusion that cars appear to be rolling up the hill.
The hill consists of sand and limestone which two to three million years ago when the sea level was much higher were islands.
